Out of my Hands is a short film I made in my senior year of High School (Spring 2020). This film was made for a student film class called Hawk TV at Bozeman High School. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, our school was shut down along with most of the world. Our classes continued the best they could. Hawk TV gave students prompts for short films we could make, though we didn't have to follow the prompt. This particular week the prompt was to parody MTV's Cribs. Instead, I decided to channel my anxiety and frustration into my first independent short film: Out of my Hands.
This version of the film follows daily pandemic life, waking up, doing homework, watching TV, imagining going outside, then going to bed. The ending in this version of the film was not the original ending, but family members determined it was too depressing to send to a schools class. In the original version, the unnamed main character stops themself from going outside, then, defeated, goes to bed early. I knew this wasn't the kind of story my teachers wanted to see, but it was my true emotions. I regret not sending the original version, and I have plans to release an original cut in the future.
